We love vintage magazines, so when I saw this image on bellechoses I knew I had to share it with you all. What a great cover!

Beauty or a beast?

Tuesday, April 28, 2009

Lately I have become obsessed with buildings that could be considered 'ugly ducklings'. Buildings that are derelict and unloved. I feel this overwhelming urge to photograph them just incase they disappear. I find these buildings so beautiful. They are full of stories and look a little sad. Some are grand, like the old cement works at Portland, and some are tiny sheds hidden in back streets. I love the colours of the aging paint, the sometimes rusty fences and the old typography. Am I crazy or are these real beauties?

Autumn: the most beautiful season.

Sunday, April 26, 2009

It's a cold Autumn day here. My toes are cold even though I'm wearing thick socks. I'm not a big fan of the cold, I prefer the warmer months. Having said that, I wouldn't skip Autumn for anything. I think it is easily the most beautiful season of all. I'm looking out at all the beautiful Autumn colours: orange, red, brown, green and shades of purple. Leaves are scattered on the ground and it reminds me of being a kid. We would make huge piles of leaves at my grandparents and then stomp and roll in them. Oh what fun!
My husband and I lived in Cairns for a while, for those who don't know Australia - Cairns is very tropical and there are really only two seasons, wet and dry. Anyway, I was so homesick one Autumn, longing for the crisp air and those beautiful colours. One afternoon a package arrived from my mum. I opened it and it was full of Autumn leaves. All shapes and sizes, all the beautiful colours of Autumn right there in a box. I have never been sent anything more beautiful. I still have them.

Yoshitomo Nara.

I brought a book of Yoshitomo Nara's postcards a couple of years ago and he has been a favourite of mine ever since. Yoshitomo is a Japanese Pop artist and his work is cute, scary and cheeky all at the same time. I love that many of his characters are so innocent but then out of the blue one will be smoking or swearing at you. You can see more of his work here.

Betsy Walton.

I just love this piece by Betsy Walton. It is so whimsical and lovely. The colours are divine and it even features a pony! What could be better? Be sure to visit Betsy Walton's website to see more of her beautiful work.

Dreaming of white.

Wednesday, April 22, 2009

I'm dreaming of white. I saw these pictures and they reminded me of that dreamy floating feeling. You know, the feeling of being in love or of complete happiness. A feeling that if it was a colour could only be shades of white.

What a great movie. My iTunes is on random and I was just listening 'If you want me' from 'Once' and it reminded me just how good it is. It's so rare to find a movie that pulls you in from the start and stays with you long after it's over...

Pretty in pink.

We all need a little fantasy in our lives sometimes. This image caught my imagination and suddenly a rainy Sunday afternoon became all a glow with pretty pink and the sound of fluttering feathers...

Chairs. Glorious Chairs.

Thursday, April 16, 2009

So as I have mentioned before I have a thing for chairs. I just love them. There is something special about the structure of a good seat. Anyway, I was reading one of our favourite blogs today, Bespoke Letterpress Boutique, and came across Alischa's gorgeous chair prints. You can get yours here. Aren't they lovely?

Friendly reminders.

While going through my daily bloggerhythm I stumbled across the most fantastic blog, Daydream Lily. The whole thing is full of beautiful little inspiring bits and pieces and whilst wandering through the pages I found these gorgeous photos by Recovering Lazyholic.
I'm in love. I think I need these around my house, I'm very forgetful.

We went for a drive in the country the other day and came across some gems in a little town named Portland. We were walking down the main street and noticed this fantastic cigarette ad in a little alcove. We just had to stop and take some photos. I think the locals might have thought we were crazy but it was way too good to miss. The old green tiles make it even better.

New arrival.

Sunday, April 12, 2009

It has been a big week. After nine long months my Husband and I have welcomed the arrival of baby Hamish. I've never been one of those clucky baby people, but let me tell you, seeing my own baby has melted my heart. He is so sweet.

I think this photo of Mary-Kate Olsen for Harpers Bazaar is gorgeous. The shoot also features one of the Olsen twins' mentors and good friend, Lauren Hutton.

Marion Cotillard

I think Marion Cotillard is simply stunning.

Swiss Family Tree House.

I wish I had a sweet tree house to put all my stuff in. I'd hang out, use my awesome wood carving skills to carve some figurines, maybe get a ukulele to bust out some tunes on. I'm pretty sure I'd find me pet donkey as well. Maybe next time I'm sailing to New Guinea I'll meet some pirates and they'll drive me into a storm so I can get ship wrecked. It could happen. And until then, I'll keep my swiss army knife and ukulele by the door.

This little print takes me away to land where you jump into chalk drawings and all of a sudden you're wearing pastels and saying "tally-ho!" whilst trotting along on your pale pink merry-go round horse.
The Black Apple has released a new series of prints titled "Milkland". I am absolutely in love with the colours of the whimsical characters that The Black Apple creates.
Find her prints here.

Have you ever found yourself waiting for something? You're stuck. You can't move forward and you can't go back. You're frozen with anticipation...

It's true. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Some people would see a run down old shop with peeling paint and ugly curtains, but I saw something oh so pretty when I took this photo. I just loved the look of the old doors, and I think the colour of the peeling paint is even a little charming.

Dream home.

I stumbled across the most lovely blog today, Seesaw. It's full of beautiful design and inspiration. The photos of this home caught my eye and I fell in love. I'd like one just like this please...

It's like candy canes at Christmas.

Wednesday, April 1, 2009

If you're happy and you know it...slap your friends! I often get in trouble for doing this. Also, when I get really excited I tend to yell a little, then get firmly reminded to "use your inside voice". It's not my fault I yell when I get passionate about something.
On another note, our inspiration of the week is Share Some Candy. It's pure gold. Check it out.
