Forts.

Monday, November 30, 2009

I love forts. Anooke and I used to build them in the lounge room and play Barbie weddings all day. Then there were the "make a den" days where Zee, Anooke, Be and I would build forts on the clothes line or over chairs and have shops and houses and such. The folks over at Booooooom ran a competition to celebrate the release of Where The Wild Things Are to build your own fort. This is one of my favourites, but you can view more of the fantastic entries over at Booooooom.

Christmas gift ideas: Cox & Cox.

I am absolutely loving this silver birch candle from Cox & Cox. Made from a section of real silver birch trunk, I think they'd look stunning in a little cluster on your christmas table or just dotted around the room. There's something very whimsical about these little treasures. Available from Cox & Cox.

Do you know me?

It's just the strangest thing
I've seen your face somewhere
An early evening dream, a past life love affair
Do you know me at all?
Do you know me at all?

Sweet Paul's advent calendar.

I'm loving this advent calendar that Sweet Paul made from match boxes. I think I might try one myself – yes, I have left it a little late, but better late than never! Here's how to make one of your own:
I made this advent calendar for Country Living.
Its made of matchboxes and some scraps of paper.
Just hot glue the tops of empty boxes to one another so you get rows.
The bottom should be 9 and decrease by two until you have a single box.
Cut wrapping paper to cover each row, secure with hot glue.
Then hot glue the rows in a tree shape as shown.
I used small stamps to stamp the numbers on each box.
On top you can hot glue a star or a cut out like I did on this one.
Fill the boxes with candy and trinkets and you are ready to go.
Thank you Sweet Paul!

Dan Martensen and Shannan Click have the most beautiful home. They make pickles and have a barn. Jealous much? Yes, yes I am. Check out more of their gorgeous abode at The Selby.

The festive season.

Anooke posted this gorgeous illustration and I just had to share it. It combines two of my favourite things: the festive season and beards. Perfection. I love it.

Christmas gift ideas: Commes des Garcons.

One of my favourite perfumes is Play EDT by Commes des Garcons. It's a unisex scent but is quite masculine with notes of bitter orange, black pepper, lime, saffron, thyme, sage, sea notes, oak moss, patchouli and musk. It smells utterly divine. The perfect gift for the person who has everything. Available in Australia from Mecca Cosmetica.

Have you ever felt lost in the world?

Sweet, Sweet Paul.

Wednesday, November 25, 2009

Now as you can tell, I'm very excited about Christmas, so had to share Sweet Paul's 'Holiday Countdown' with you. One of the things I love most about Sweet Paul is his wonderful Christmas craft and recipe ideas. From now until Christmas, Sweet Paul will share Christmas goodies with us everyday. If you are as crazy about Christmas as we are, make sure you check in with Sweet Paul as often as you can.

Love Actually.

The count down to Christmas is on. We put our tree up on the weekend. Putting our tree up is always a big deal in our family, we have special Christmas music, photos, food and a jolly old time. It has to be one of my favorite days of the year.
We thought we'd keep the festivities going well into the evening so watched one of our favourite movies, Love Actually. It has everything: love, Christmas, comedy... what more could you ask for.

Christmas gift ideas: House Industries goodies.

Sunday, November 22, 2009

House Industries have heaps of awesome Christmas gifts on their website, but I thought these would make great stocking fillers – who doesn't want/need Alphabet Tape?
The alphabet tape is $15 and the note pad $10. They're on my wish list.

Cody Hudson for Bodega.

Thursday, November 19, 2009

I'm loving these wall decals Cody Hudson has done for Bodega. The concept behind Bodega's large scale, eco-friendly, temporary indoor art is to make the art of emerging and established artists affordable and available to the public. The decals have been made using eco-friendly inks and vinyl.

White.

Tuesday, November 17, 2009

White is such a summery colour. It's so fresh and pretty. Maybe I'll change my black wardrobe for a white one.
This is what Christian Dior's 'The Little Dictionary of Fashion says about white:
White is more beautiful than any colour for evening. At a ball there are always one or two white dresses which are outstanding. White is pure and simple and matches everything. For day-time it has to be used with great care because it must always be really white and immaculate. If you cannot keep it so it is better not to have it.
But nothing gives the impression of good grooming and being well dressed more quickly than spotless white...

Unicorn watch: licorne magique.

Today's unicorn magic is french actor Gaspard Ulliel. Love it.

Christmas gift idea: Battle Studies by John Mayer.

The new John Mayer album 'Battle Studies' is (in my opinion) a great Christmas gift for any one, unless they have a problem with gorgeous, talented men. It's easy to listen to and inspiring. There's also a great collaboration between Mayer and Taylor Swift.

Christmas gift ideas: Catherine Campbell Calendar.

Thursday, November 5, 2009

What's better than a beautiful gift that will last the whole year? Catherine Campbell's 2010 calendar is just lovely. The A5 calendar is available from Catherine's Etsy store.

A lovely day.

It was my birthday on Monday and I had the most lovely day. The weather was deliciously warm so we had a lazy day drinking iced chai, eating macaroons and reading the wonderful books I received as gifts. It was perfect. Getting older really isn't that bad...

I flew the red eye to Perth and all I got was...

Tuesday, November 3, 2009

This freaking awesome magazine. King Brown, where have you been all my life? I was staying in a cute little suburb of Perth called Leederville. It has a few really rad clothes shops and restaurants (and a fantastic skate-ish shop I can't recall the name of?!) and a shop called Remedy where I found this gem and fell in love. As you guys probably know by now, I'm a bit of a magazine freak and when I fall in love with a mag, I fall hard and fast. I am completely and utterly in awe of this fine article. Check out more King Brown here. Love it.

Happy Birthday Zee.

Yesterday was Zee's birthday! I feel terrible that I didn't post this on time. I got lost somewhere between the cupcakes, the macaroons and the iced chai. Happy Birthday my darling, light of my life, daily inspiration and dearest friend. Love you x

Wizard chic.

Zee, Anooke and I have come up with a new style called "wizard chic". It's a cross between Professor McGonagal of Harry Potter and, well, chic. For this shoot I was really inspired by Jan von Holleben's series called "Dreams of Flying". I absolutely love the set ups that Jan comes up with and we wanted to style our "wizard chic" shoot in the same way. Although our photos are not as polished as Jan's, We're still happy with the final product. We processed the photos with Sheye Rosemeyer’s Eyecandy Actions. I totally love the way that “Vintage Wash” gave the image that “straight out of the Daily Prophet” look. Thank you to our gorgeous model Anooke, an absolute star as always. We hope you enjoy wizard chic as much as we do.

The Chao Residence.

Monday, November 2, 2009

Anna Beth Chao. Wow, what a woman. This design freak and her husband have been re-decorating their Louisiana home one room at a time and it's absolutely breathtaking. I just love her style and the choices she has made for each room, even down to the amazing little bits and pieces around the house. I'm so jealous. Her little design tips and insights are hilarious. I love her and I've never even met her. I can't wait to see how the rest of the house evolves. Anna documents the reno on her website here.
