The epitome of cool: Nick Sambrato.

Thursday, July 29, 2010

He's got a beard, wears a cool apron, has a sweet ride, plays the guitar, is an entrepreneur and loves to letterpress. Could Nick Sambrato be the perfect man? Lella and I think so.
Check out this interview Grain & Gram did with Nick, and be sure to watch the video.
He is just so cool.

A belated happy birthday to darling Lella.

It was Lella's birthday on Monday. Sorry it's late (I'm slack I know) but HAPPY BIRTHDAY dearest!

Oh that fringe.

Sunday, July 18, 2010

So foolish. I am actually chuckling as I write this but...I totally have a girl crush on the Need Supply model. Is it the tattoos? The fringe? Who can be sure.

Dazzling.

Emma Watson. Dazzling as always.

Danger was his middle name.

I've posted about photographer Nick Gascoine before, he's quite a talented young lad based in Sydney and his new website nahyouritemate is up and running. It's a blog, a website, a bmx team and almost like a family. I know most of you aren't really into this kind of thing, but even if you're not a fan of bmx check out the new web edit by the talented John Young. It stars Danger; who was apparently on a Milo commercial?! I'm sold. It's exquisitely filmed and Danger is amazing (and who wouldn't be with a nick name like 'Danger'?)
Note: Mum, please ignore the foul language.

Let's fall in love and wear matching clothes.

A tale for my beloved: a story by Anooke.

'It was a cold day on the shores of the Black Sea when she first felt her heart beat. She knew she had met the man she would elope with. So she did. And she grew a moustache.'

'After three months of marital bliss, she realised that she could never love the kind of man who listened to electronic music and bought apples only to let them go floury in the fruit bowl.'

'So she fled back to Transylvania. Got an office job. And bought a sausage dog. Fin.'
Anooke – you are divine.

An unexpected ferry ride.

Thursday, July 15, 2010

Anooke and Mum invited me on a trip to see part of the 17th Biennale of Sydney on Monday. All I really knew was that we were heading to the MCA, I didn't know much about this years festival so assumed we would go to the museum and that would be that. I was wrong. We ended up on a ferry to Cockatoo Island. It was a crisp Sydney morning and I had foolishly left my jacket at home. The view of the harbour was delightful, but as we huddled together on that ferry to keep warm the trip seemed to take forever. At one point Anooke said 'can't they just hurry up and park this bad boy'.
We finally got to the very creepy island and wandered around to see the different films, sculptures and installations. I was impressed by some pieces, but others had me saying 'really?' and 'are you for real?'. Maybe I just don't understand modern art.
I loved some of the old buildings and architectural detail on the island – you know me, I'm a sucker for typography on buildings!
All in all we had a lovely day that finished with a trip to Black Star Pastry. It was an adventure.

It's true, I crave you.

Saturday, July 10, 2010

Why can't you want me like the other boys do?

They stare at me while I stare at you

Why can't I keep you safe as my own?

One moment I have you the next you are gone

Rehearsed steps on an empty stage

That boy's got my heart in a silver cage

Why can't you want me like the other boys do?

They stare at me while I crave you

Let's just stop and think, before I lose face

Surely I can't fall, into a game of chase

Around his little finger, that boy has got me curled

I try to reach out, but he's in his own world

This boy's got my head tied in knots with all his games

I simply want him more because he looks the other way

Charmed by a gate.

Thursday, July 8, 2010

I know it's random, but I saw this gate at Blackheath a few weeks ago and just had to take a photo. Even though it's a bit of a wreck, I think it's charming.

Thoughtful strangers.

Monday, July 5, 2010

Today I was reminded that strangers can be nice. I had been doing some emergency grocery shopping for a very sick Lella, feeling a little frazzled and juggling the bags as I packed them into the car, when a lovely woman came up and asked if she could take my trolley back to the trolley bay for me. It was so random and so thoughtful that I must admit I was a little shocked. We should all try to do something nice for someone we don't know. You might just make a strangers day.
