Guest post: Anooke

I find Lionel Bawden's work so inspiring. He takes something most of us use everyday, the common pencil, and carves them into the most beautiful sculptures. I love the complex simplicity of them, they are sheer genius. The use of shape and colour is just divine.

The sculpture above, 'esque - thoughts brought forth by our fingers' 2000-02, is made from colour Staedtler pencils, epoxy and linseed oil. More of Lionel's work can be seen here.

When I saw this beautiful photo from VogueGirl Korea, I wished the giant robot was my best friend.

I imagined us discussing such things as Shakespeare's Sonnets, why the world goes round and whether we would bake souffle or choc-chip cookies. He'd say things like 'in my book courtesy counts', and I'd reply 'I would love to read that book someday Chester' (that, of course would be his name). We would walk hand in hand through this complex world we live in.
