I'm sorry my tears washed your book away.

Tuesday, March 30, 2010

Anooke leant me her copy of 'The Time Traveller's Wife', and I have just finished reading it. Anooke and Lella told me how great it was, so I thought I'd read the book before I watched the movie. It was a good book – 'Had me at hello', but it made me sad from the very beginning and by the end I was crying like a baby. My Husband came home to find me sobbing on the lounge, thinking something tragic had happened, and then saw the book in my hands and shook his head. It's one of those books that leaves you thinking about it for days.

Jessica Hische.

I wish I was as clever as Jessica Hische. Her work is amazing. I love her 'Daily Drop Cap' project, where Jessica illustrates at least one letter a day, and plans to keep it up for at approx. 12 alphabets! The image above is of her first (and last) edition Daily Drop Cap letterpress prints – oh so lovely!
Make sure you visit her website and take a look at all her beautiful work.

I wish you would come back.

Awesome: Perky Bros LLC.

Tuesday, March 23, 2010

I stumbled across the awesome work of Perky Bros LLC, a design company in Nashville today, and I am totally smitten. I mean who could resist the combination of wood grain and letterpress? Here are just a few examples of their work (do yourself a favour and check out the rest on their website though).

Purple.

Monday, March 22, 2010

I was reading one of my favourite blogs, Dress Design Decor, and fell in love with these photos by Corrie Bond. The purple is so striking and lovely. Here is what Christian Dior's 'The Little Dictionary of Fashion' says about purple (I'm not sure I entirely agree): Purple – King of colours; but it has to be used with great care because it is not young looking. And it is not very gay. But if you are young enough you may wear a purple coat in wool or a purple velvet dress and look wonderful in it. Again, purple is a colour that needs a good complexion. And usually, I think, it looks best on people who are very dark or fair. But it is full of dangers – and not very convenient because you may easily get tired of it.

Zig Zags were in vogue.

I love love love this Marc Johns gem. I was ready to pull out my credit card, but sadly someone had beaten me to it. You can see more of Marc's awesomeness here.

Unicorn-esque.

Saturday, March 20, 2010

Definition: Sometimes looks like a unicorn, but not full unicorn. Jason Swartzman is unicorn-esque. This doesn't mean I love him any less.

You've got the love.

Sometimes it seems that the going is just too rough
And things go wrong no matter what I do
Now and then it seems that life is just too much
But you've got the love I need to see me through

Words: "You've got the love" Florence and the Machine version.

Home sweet home.

Thursday, March 18, 2010

We have been talking about moving lately and it has me thinking about houses – homes, my dream home. To be honest I'm not exactly sure what my dream home is, one day I love the ultra modern look, the next I want something romantic and pretty. Today I love this house by Marcus O'Reilly Architects.

The Lighthouse.

And I've been getting urges late at night
To walk and walk for days and throughout lights
Through people's houses, picking food from plates
Through people's gardens, picking locks on gates

So we are moving to a lighthouse, you and I
While seas drown sailors, we'll be locked up safe and dry
And though our doors may knock and rattle in the wind
I'll just hold you tight and we'll not let those fuckers in

And I've been leaving gifts out in the woods
That someone might stumble upon and wonder at their origins
I've been feeling like a fox with sad old eyes
Whose skulk has all moved on to leave the dark and empty den behind

So we are moving to a lighthouse, you and I
While seas drown sailors, we'll be locked up safe and dry
And though our doors may knock and rattle in the wind
I'll just hold you tight and we'll not let those fuckers in

I'll anull these little walls of attrition and these invocations
That's seen me holding my camera out at arms length
To self-document these new locations
When I should be leaning against you
Deciding on things to get done
And you should be leaning on fountains
And filling my space up and breathing the air from my lungs

So we are moving to a lighthouse, you and I
While seas drown sailors, we'll be locked up safe and dry
And we are moving to a lighthouse, you and I
Our beams will burn the clouds to beacons in the sky
And though our doors may knock and rattle in the wind
The wind...
I'll just hold you tight and we'll not let those fuckers in

The Archaeologist.

Saturday, March 13, 2010

Our Dad is an Archaeologist. Two questions people always ask when they hear this are: 'Does he look like Indiana Jones' and 'Has he dug up any dinosaur bones'. The answer to both these questions is no. He did dig up these beautiful pieces of china this week though, and to me they are way more exciting than any old bones.

I'll find a way.

Pascal, my true love.

Saturday, March 6, 2010

This kid is so cool I can't even handle it. I want to marry you, Pascal.

Tra la la!

It looks like it's shaping up to be a beautiful day. And I'm in an alarmingly good mood. I feel like i should be skipping down a little cobblestone lane with a bunch of fresh flowers "tra la lar-ing". Have a wonderful day!

StyleSightings: Rad New Yorkers.

I think this is one of my favourite StyleSightings images of all time. There's too many reasons why I love it. These kids are so rad.

Love: Ban.Do

I'm such a beigeist. I love pale creamy colours, and I'm absolutely loving these gorgeous wedding Ban.Do's. Check out more Ban.Do love here.

Five: things that make me feel sick.

Thursday, March 4, 2010

5. Listening to the radio.
4. Cheese cake. The unbaked kind. It's just wrong.
3. The thought of my Instyle magazine collection in a garbage truck. It still hurts.
2. The fact that my innocent little car was parked on a lovely hill and an unidentified nasty white (it left a scratch) vehicle reversed into it and then left without so much as leaving a note.

Only 20 more sleeps until Project Runway.

Yes, us Australian's are a bit behind, but I'm so excited to see season 6 anyway!

"I never plan that far in advance."

Monday, March 1, 2010

A new boy has entered my world. He's complicated, fascinating, funny and vague. I was thinking about this on my way to work this morning and remembered Humphrey Bogart's character 'Rick' in Casablanca. Rick is hurt and damaged all because of his great love. One of my favourite lines in the movie is when a disgruntled lover of Rick's asks him to have dinner that night and he simply replies "I never plan that far in advance". I'm going out on a limb here, but I think I've met a 'Rick' and I'm a deer in the head lights. To run or stay?
