Oh, Joaquin, could you be anymore adorable? Although I'm not sold on his latest "weirdo-bearded-rapper" phase, he'll always be one of my favourites. So fine.

Sunday afternoon.

We have had a lazy Sunday afternoon toasting marshmallows on an open fire, and listening to the divine sound of Edith Piaf on the old record player. I can't think of a better way to end the weekend.

Five: Favourite smells.

5. Coal smoke. 

I have a love hate relationship with coal smoke. I grew up in a mining town full of coal smoke chimneys or 'donkeys', one being next door to our house. It would blow out the thickest, smelliest smoke full of soot. The flakes of soot would land on our washing line and occasionally stain our clothes. When I smell coal smoke now it reminds me of being a child. Of afternoons spent jumping on the trampoline, or freezing winter days. Sometimes, I breathe that filth in and it makes me feel safe.

4. New Rubber.

When our new pram got delivered recently I couldn't get enough of the smell of the new tyres. So delicious. 

3. Fresh Baking.

How good is the smell of a cake cooking? I love going to Mum's and being welcomed by the smell of a delicious cake or batch of cookies. It is truly the smell of love.

2. Sweet Peas.

My favourite flower. The grow outside my Grandma's house, those pretty pink and purple flowers. I could burry my nose in them the whole day through.

1. Rain.

I love those summer afternoons when it starts to rain and that unmistakable smell rises from the earth. It's a smell you can't really describe, but is one of the simplest pleasures there is. Yum.

Food = Favourite.

I love food. Eating it, cooking it, reading about it, sharing it...

My family connects through food, whether it's a simple meal at home, a Yum Cha or a High Tea, we come together to eat and catch up on what's happening in our lives. I love that food brings us together. 

One of my favourite movies is 'Mostly Martha'. It's a wonderful German film that is based around food. It's a perfect example of food bringing people together. It's a simple dish of pasta that changes the lives of Martha, Mario and Lena, bringing them together, and helping Lena start to heal after the death of her mother. Not only is the story wonderful, watching the preparation of the food is just beautiful.

A not so Semi-Permanent mother...

Yesterday was my first Mother's Day. I have no idea how, but my four week old managed to buy me a great card and the awesome Semi-Permanent 2009 Book. He knows me so well after only a short time together : )

I'm one lucky mother. Don't worry, I won't go too mushy on you.

We heart Zooey.

Pretty sure I have a girl crush on Zooey Deschanel. Not only is she gorgeous and a marvelous actress, she can belt out a mean tune as well. I've been listening to She & Him, a collaboration between Deschanel and M.Ward, non stop. The tunes are sweet and whimiscal, yet involved and emotional. The whole album has a bit of a 60's twang to it, with Deschanel's quirky charm running through every track. Although Zooey's vocals are undoubtedly the star, M. Ward lends his musical talent to all tracks, his rough and rusty vocals give an edge a few of the mesmerising tracks.  I'm in love with this album.

Ponies and stuff.

I think we all know how much I love ponies. This morning I stumbled across Will Bryant's blog my love for you is like a stampede of horses.  Probably one of my favourite blogs, its not only inspiring but has the word "horses" in its title...hello? could anything be more perfect for me?

Incu

Incu have just released their Autumn/Winter 09 Look book. I am absolutely in love with Patrick McGreal's photography genius on this slice of fashion heaven.

With labels such as Acne, Commes des Garcon, Bassike, Alexander Wang and Nom de Guerre, Incu really is one of Sydney's finest shopping destinations.

If you live in Sydney and can pop into one of the stores you should definitely pick up a copy of the Look book. The photography is divine, yet simple. If you're not in Sydney you can view the Look book here. 

Rowing Song.

It's my favourite song at the moment. 'Rowing Song' by Patty Griffin has captured my imagination and is stuck playing in my head. 'Sometimes so strange, sometimes so sweet, sometimes so lonely'...

H is for Hamish.

My baby boy is a month old today and I thought it was high time to get creative again. We received so many beautiful gifts for Hamish and I needed to come up with something to say 'thank you', so I decided to screen print 'thank you postcards'. I cut a decorative stencil of the letter H (I love cutting detailed patterns) and Lella helped me print it onto thick recycled card that my local printer cut for me. I plan to send them with a photo of Hamish, in a clear envelope. I had so much fun printing these, that I have moved onto some new stencils. I'll post some photos of these when I'm done. 

Sweet sixteen.

I'm staying at my Parent's house at the moment and our sixteen year old sister has sweetly let me move into her bedroom. I just love her style. She has colour photocopies from her favourite magazine on the walls, a fantastic white cuckoo clock and vintage bits and pieces on every available surface. I wish I had been as stylish when I was a teenager.

Wait, just a minute.

Communication is one of the most important things in any relationship. Sharing the way you feel and listening to the other person's point of view is so important. Sometimes we jump in and do or say things we might regret without waiting, just for a minute, to listen to, or consider the other side of things. A perfect example of this is Carrie's reaction to Big in the Sex and The City Movie. Big gets cold feet and doesn't think he can go through with the wedding, but as he's driving away he realises the mistake he's making. Before he gets a chance to tell Carrie this she is beating him with her bouquet without taking a moment to stop and listen. Maybe I would have done the same thing, but I hope in a similar situation I could wait, just a minute and listen.

I was just reading one of our favourite blogs, Black.White.Bliss, and my heart quickened when I saw this awesome poster. It's a must have. You can get yours here.

Guest post: Anooke

I find Lionel Bawden's work so inspiring. He takes something most of us use everyday, the common pencil, and carves them into the most beautiful sculptures. I love the complex simplicity of them, they are sheer genius. The use of shape and colour is just divine.

The sculpture above, 'esque - thoughts brought forth by our fingers' 2000-02, is made from colour Staedtler pencils, epoxy and linseed oil. More of Lionel's work can be seen here.
